It's important for students to do well in eighth grade, as their grades will help determine which high schools they are accepted into, and set their paths to college. It is not too early to research high schools for your child to consider, visit websites and schedule tours of the schools.  During eighth grade you will do a lot of growing up both physically and emotionally. This in-between stage can make it difficult for some pre-teens to navigate through the eighth grade, but with direction and help of both parents and teachers we can have a successful year.   Academics will be tougher, but students still have time to strengthen academic and organization skills before entering high school. Continue to practice good study skills, have a dedicate spot for homework. Make sure your student has a planner to write down assignments. This summer read, read and read at least thirty minutes a day. Go to the library and pick books that interest your students. Parents can teach by example and have family reading time each evening. Go to mass on Sunday, and volunteer at the Parish or other service organization. This is an exciting year for your child, as they begin to prepare for the transition to high school. Take time to enjoy your child this summer.
