Take part in cooking activities with your parents. Write down the directions they give you using fractions; for example, half a teaspoon is 1/2 teaspoon. Likewise, read the recipe and ask your parents if you have problems understanding the amounts given with fractions.
Calculate the exact amount of your change before paying. This way you will be able to practice addition, by summing up the cost of all items bought, as well as subtraction, by subtracting the sum from the total payment.
Read everything that falls in your hands, from children's books to television guides, church bulletins and newspapers. A fourth-grade student is expected to read well. Read in front of your parents and ask them for comments on your progress. If you have younger brothers and sisters practice reading to them.
Keep a journal of your summer vacation. Write in complete sentences and pay attention to spelling as well. Write a story about why you love your school.
Plant a garden, observe plants during your summer vacation, as well as their growth in sunny and shady spots.
Go to mass on Sunday, and say your prayers every day.
