It is always helpful to keep your child learning throughout the summer and beyond. Summer is a wonderful time for children to kick back and relax. Unfortunately some of what they learned from 1st grade can be lost. Hear are some tips on how to prepare your child for 2nd grade.
Learning can be fun. Go for nature walks and discuss things about nature. Look for animal prints and discuss which animal it came from. If you see a bee on a flower talk about what the bees job is in helping flowers. Discuss the weather and the different kinds of weather.Students will be learning two digit and three digit addition. It would be very helpful for your child if he or she practiced and memorized their 1 digit addition and subtraction math facts. The dollar store sells math fact flash cards all the time. Other things to continue practicing through the summer is telling time and counting money. Read daily with your child. Get your child excited about reading. Take him or her on a weekly trip to the library. Allow them to get their very own library card and check out several books each week. Parents can begin to help kids prepare for First Holy Communion by teaching them Catholic prayers and familiarizing children with the Mass. Children who are preparing to receive communion should know the basic prayers, including the Sign of the Cross, Hail Mary, Our Father, and the Glory Be. Have a safe and fun summer. God Bless you!
